What is Coronal Craniosynostosis?

Leah has right coronal craniosynostosis, which means that her skull fused prematurely on the right side of her head. She was diagnosed at five weeks old, and had distraction osteogenesis surgery on October 21, 2013 at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Her distractor was removed on February 3, 2014. What is Distraction Osteogenesis?

There are several ways to treat craniosynostosis, all of which involve cutting the skull at the fused suture and reshaping it. Under the advisement of Leah's craniofacial reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Taylor, we chose to treat Leah's craniosynostois with distraction osteogenesis. Read about the procedure below:
